About

Tamia Henderson is a Master’s student in Criminology, Law, and Justice at the University of Illinois Chicago. Her work focuses on restorative justice in schools, youth development, and the social dynamics of community violence. Her research explores how restorative practices are implemented in real classroom settings, with particular attention to the tensions between relationship-building and discipline, as well as how factors like reputation and gender shape student experiences.

Through her roles as a teaching assistant and mentor, Tamia works closely with elementary students, supporting both academic growth and social development. She is especially interested in how community-based approaches, mentorship, and cultural shifts can transform systems often rooted in punishment into spaces centered on accountability, healing, and growth.
