Almethia Franklin is a PhD Candidate in the Criminology, Law and Justice Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She graduated with an M.A. in Criminology Law, Justice from UIC. Her research interests include mass incarceration, ex-offender reentry, alternatives to incarceration and qualitative methodologies. She is specifically interested in exploring the “lived experiences” of formerly incarcerated individuals as they undergo reentry on their own terms. In addition to her academic experience, Almethia has worked as a Project Coordinator on several state and federally funded grant programs addressing issues of youth violence, teenage pregnancy, and community engagement.
