About

Jabril A. Hassen (he/him/his) is a PhD student in the Criminology, Law, and Justice Department at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). His research interests center on policing and community-based participatory action research, with a focus on addressing systemic inequalities through liberatory research.
Prior to pursuing his PhD, Jabril worked both domestically and internationally as a community-based social worker in Washington State and the Philippines. He has also held full-time teaching positions in the Criminal Justice departments at Seattle University and Bellevue College, where he developed and delivered curricula on topics related to criminal justice, political science, and ethnic studies.
Jabril earned a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis on Criminology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and a master's degree in Criminal Justice from Seattle University.
